Rockwell Table Tennis Tournament is back, and the date is set to be on Saturday, May 10, 2014!

Hi All,
I am pleased to announce that the registration is now open for the Rockwell Spring Table Tennis Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Rockwell Recreational Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.

In short, we will be having two events - Singles and Team events. Singles event will accept a maximum of 40 players, and the team event will accept a maximum of 16 teams, where 1 team = 2 players. Once the maximum number of players is reached, the registration will be closed, so please do sign up early to guarantee your spot!
If you sign up before Saturday, April 26 11:59 PM, you will benefit from the "Early-Bird" Fee. After April 26, each player will have to pay an additional $5 on top of the original registration fee to join each event. The final registration deadline is Saturday, May 3, 2014. Early-Bird fee for Singles is $40/player, and Team is $20/player. $5 discount is applied to your subtotal if you sign up for both events. Another $5 discount is applied to your subtotal if you are a Rockwell Rec Center Member.
Prize money totalling $1300 will be handed out in the tournament (based on maximum number of participants) - prize money breakdown available on our website under the news column. Every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner will be awarded a trophy (singles event), or a medal (team event). That means a total of 12 trophies (4 Singles Divisions) and 12 medals (2 Team Divisions) will be given out in this event on top of the prize money!
The format for the Singles event (8AM - 1PM) is as follows: We will have multiple round robin groups of 4 players each, in which the 1st place finishers in all groups will be put into the Open division, 2nd place finishers to Division A, 3rd place and 4th place finishers to Divisions B and C respectively. In the divisions, knock-out rounds will take place. It is possible for the round robin matches to be best 2 out of 3 sets, depending on the number of entrants. All other matches are best 3 out of 5 sets in the Singles event.
The format for the team event (1PM - 7PM) is as follows: One team is composed of two players. The team rating is calculated by taking the sum of the ratings of the two players. The team ratings are used for the initial seeding. Every team is guaranteed at least two team matches. The format of the team matches is the following: 2 singles, 1 doubles, and 2 more singles matches. The team match is complete once one team wins three individual matches.

It would be nice to have some volunteers helping with the administrative work during the tournament, so if anyone is interested, please let me know, and your help would be very much appreciated.
Note: Rockwell TT and USATT Ratings (Rockwell Rating takes precedence) will be used for the initial seeding in the tournament. Orange Nittaku Premium 40-mm balls will be used. Please do not wear any clothing with orange color, or any color close to orange.

If you are signing up for the team event, please put your partner's name in the Comments section of the registration form. If you are unsure who your partner will be, you can leave that section blank and update me when you find out who your partner will be.
Refunds are permitted up until the registration deadline (Saturday, May 3, 2014 11:59 PM). If registration fills up and the registration deadline has not been reached yet, then you will only have 72 hours to request a refund. I will send out an email if this scenario occurs to make sure everyone is aware of the situation.

p.s. Tables will be set up the night before the tournament, so they will be ready as soon as you come in Saturday morning. Please check-in 15 minutes prior to starting time of your event.
